Background
- Winnipeg is a city of 750,000 people located in central Canada and is the capital of Manitoba. The two major teaching hospitals act as a major referral center for the entire province of 1.2 million people, as well as parts of Northern Ontario, Nunavut and Saskatchewan.
- This is a 5-year Royal College accredited training program leading to specialist certification (Royal College FRCPC) in Emergency Medicine.
- Academic day is full-day protected time off clinical duties and takes place once a week on Tuesdays.
- There are approximately 4 residents per cohort.
- The residency program has recently transitioned to the new competency-based medical education curriculum. The Royal College Examination will now be written at the end of PGY-4. The goals of PGY-5 are to focus entirely on Transition to Practice.

- Trauma Team Leader
- MSK Sports Medicine
Fellowships
- The Department of Emergency Medicine offers Ultrasound and Sports Medicine Fellowships. In the past, residents have also pursued relevant fellowships from other departments.
