Maisonneuve fracture

Background

- medial malleolar Fx or complete deltoid ligament tear,syndesmotic ligament tear, and proximal fibular Fx.

Diagnosis

-prox fibular Fx can also damage the common peroneal nerve which supplies tibialis anterior and sensation to the first web space.

Treatment

-can be treated without surgery if mortise is intact, but usually requires a syndesmotic screw. diastasis on plain films indicates an unstable mortise and surgical repair required.
