Contraindications

  • Allergy to class/drug
  • large open wounds
  • caution if renal impairment, mod-severe

Adverse Reactions

Pharmacology

  • Half-life: 20-40 min
  • Metabolism: liver; CYP450; <0.3% systemic absorption
  • Excretion: urine <3%
  • Mechanism of Action: bacteriostatic or bactericidal, depending on susceptibility and concentration; reversibly binds to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, inhibiting protein synthesis (monoxycarbolic acid)
