Background
- Used (alone or with beta-lactam) to treat serious infections due to gram-negative bacilli, e.g.:
- Ill patient with pyelonephritis
- Meningitis (due to pseudomonas, acinetobacter)
- Peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis
- Bacterial endocarditis
- Used +/- beta-lactam
- Nephro and oto toxic. Risk of neuromuscular blockade.
- Can precipitate crisis in patients with myasthenia gravis
- Include gentamicin and tobramycin
