Background
- Medial malleolar Fx or complete deltoid ligament tear, syndesmotic ligament tear, and proximal fibular Fx
Diagnosis
- prox fibular Fx can also damage the common peroneal nerve which supplies tibialis anterior and sensation to the first web space.
Treatment
- can be treated without surgery if mortise is intact, but usually requires a syndesmotic screw. diastasis on plain films indicates an unstable mortise and surgical repair required.
