Our program’s mission is to educate physicians with the knowledge, clinical skills, and attitude to provide excellent care in the field of emergency medicine. It is our purpose to excel in clinical care, education, and scholarship while maintaining an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages a lifetime of learning.

Our [https://medli.nyu.edu/departments-divisions/emergency-medicine/education/residency/curriculum dynamic curriculum], based at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, enables our residents to gain experience treating a diverse, high-acuity patient population with access to the advanced tertiary care expertise of a world-renowned health system. We are proud to be a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and STEMI Receiving Center. Additionally, we have observation medicine services on-site as well as a pediatric emergency department staffed by pediatric emergency physicians. Our dedicated faculty of physicians, who come from diverse backgrounds and have varied interests, are looking forward to mentoring trainees and helping them to develop their niche within emergency medicine.

With our own ambulance service and faculty experts in emergency medical services, our prehospital medicine and disaster medicine experiences are a highlight of our program. Every Wednesday, residents are protected from clinical responsibilities so they can participate in our comprehensive didactic curriculum where they learn core and advanced principles of emergency medicine. These Wednesday conferences include flipped-classroom sessions, hands-on experience in the state-of-the art [https://medli.nyu.edu/education/simulation-center NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island Simulation Center] and small-group discussions led by senior residents with mentorship from faculty to enhance teaching and leadership skills.

==Curriculum==

The Emergency Medicine Residency at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine is a three-year program that trains emergency medicine physicians to provide the highest level of care to their patients and pursue a career in the setting of their choosing. Starting in July 2023, we will train 6 residents per year, with a full cohort comprising 18 residents.

===Clinical Rotations===
Our rotation schedule is divided into 13 4-week blocks per postgraduate year (PGY), which includes 1 block of vacation.

Our work schedule adheres to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and New York State duty-hour regulations. An in-house attending physician is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week for direct supervision and consultation as needed.

==Research Opportunities==
As part of the greater NYU community, NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine aims to graduate academic physicians who become leaders in their chosen field. During training, emergency medicine residents are expected to complete an approved scholarly project. Residents work with the Emergency Department Director of Research and Scholarship, [https://nyulangone.org/doctors/1972862118/suchismita-datta Suchismita Datta, MD], who will advise them in choosing a scholarly project. Residents are also matched with a faculty mentor with compatible scholarly interests to help guide them through the completion of their project.

Throughout training, residents have access to NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine’s [https://medli.nyu.edu/research/resources-researchers/biostatistics-core Biostatistics Core] for assistance in areas such as study design, sample size, and interpretation of data. The librarians at the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine’s Hollis Health Sciences Library are also available for guidance and consultation of literature reviews. Residents are encouraged to present their research at a variety of local, regional, and national scientific meetings.
