-The residency program is ABEM/RRC-approved, since its inception in 1988 as a PGY 1-3 program with 12 resident physicians in each training year. Residents spend greater than 95% of their hospital-based training in the ED or Critical Care Units. There is a separate pediatric ED which opened in 2018. Volume and pathology is high since Albany serves as a regional referral center as northeastern New York's only academic health science center. AMC is unique in that it has a large 17-county catchment area. In addition to our EM residency we offer fellowships in ultrasound, EM/Surgical Critical Care, and Prehospital Medicine (EMS).
